for the Department of History

GENERAL STATEMENT


A. DEPARTMENT & SERVICES

The Department of History offers both undergraduate and Graduate degrees, and two education concentrations for undergraduates. A minor in Archival Studies and Community Documentation is offered in conjunction with the Department of the Library. The Department of History participates in the college's core curriculum through Core Studies 4. It shares responsibility for Core Studies 9 with other departments. Graduate degrees are offered in this area as well.


B. LANGUAGES

English is the dominant language. Foreign titles are usually not purchased.


C. GEOGRAPHIC AREA

The emphasis of the collection is international.


D. CHRONOLOGICAL LIMITS

The emphasis is current.

Books - print and/or electronic (based on availability and price)
Journals - print and/or electronic (based on availability and price)
Electronic resources - Web-based versions


F. MATERIALS EXCLUDED

Audiovisual - unless requested.


G. NUMBER OF COPIES

Usually only one. (Duplicate copies may be needed for required books in a course.)


H. SUBJECT/PRIORITY/LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY

History materials (as History is a broad subject, in both time and place) are purchased on a case by case basis. The collection is weighted toward American and European history.
