We have divided
our project into three phases:
1. Research and Development.
- It is important to identify
patron needs and technological specifications
for using PDAs in the Library settings.
- Our initial approach was to develop
a client-server application in order to use it
on portable devices, and some preliminary installation
of custom software was required.
After developing and testing such applications, we concluded that it is inconvenient for users to install additional application on their devices because this requires a great deal of hardware support. Not only is it time consuming, it also creates the possibility for software conflicts and failure points.

We thus decided that our approach should be platform- and device- independent. We also performed intensive research on hardware for both PDAs and beaming devices.
