Go to the Blackboard with Sylvie Richards:
Getting on Board with the Interactive Syllabus

The Office of Academic Information Technologies (AIT) leads the college's efforts in developing instructional technology tools. In support of this initiative, AIT also provides individual faculty and small groups with hands-on training for making an effective academic use of contemporary computer technology. Throughout the spring semester, they are offering a series of workshops featuring the new interactive e-Learning software, Blackboard 5. User-friendly Blackboard 5 facilitates online interaction between students and faculty as well as the electronic dissemination of course-related materials.

AIT's Multimedia Design/Development Specialist, Dr. Sylvie Richard, will be your instructor for the workshops. She has designed the workshops to take you from simply "thinking" about possible ways to create technology rich teaching and learning environments to actually building an interactive syllabus compete with images, audio files, video files, discipline-specific resources, and online Library resources. Your interactive syllabus can be as basic or as complex as you wish, the important thing is that the end-result is easy to use and easy to maintain. You will also learn how to create stimulating multimedia class assignments, online quizzes and assessments to monitor students, and bulletin boards that are a natural extension of your classroom. All in all, it looks like a terrific opportunity to learn how to incorporate a very powerful tool into the traditional classroom experience.

If you are not sure what Blackboard 5 can do for you or are unable to attend the workshops, why not arrange for a personalized tour of the system with Sylvie? She has created a series of  "demo" syllabi which clearly demonstrate the huge potential of the system. You can contact her in AIT by e-mail: sylvie@brooklyn.cuny.edu or by campus phone: X4467.
