She explored different areas of interest; some of her books were biographical, others more historical in nature. Beatrice Siegel did extensive research on her projects. When writing about basket weaving and spinning, she described it in the context of the relationship between early American colonists and Native American Indians. When writing of life in the lower East Side, she depicted the difficulties immigrants experienced. Her biographical works include books about Lillian Wald (who established the Henry Street Settlement House in New York City), Corazon Aquizon (first woman President of the Philippines), Alicia Alonso (a young ballerina), and Margaret Bourke-White (a famous female photographer). The Beatrice Siegel Collection bears the research material, drafts, manuscripts, galley proofs, background files, miscellaneous articles, and photographs assembled by Ms Siegel in the process of writing her books.
