Introduction: The New Millennium Begins

This report presents the Library's achievements from September 1999 through March 2001, along with our planning efforts and aspirations for the future. This year’s document addresses the six major themes of the last 20 months:

THEME I: On Brooklyn’s Green Fields: A Year in Temporary Quarters
THEME II: The Once & Future Library
THEME III: A New President & a New Vision for Brooklyn College
THEME IV: Electronic Information Resources
THEME V: Incorporating Technology with Teaching
THEME VI: The Morton & Angela Topfer Library Cafe

Purists might argue that themes emerge even within our themes, and there would be some truth there. Reduced to their lowest common denominators, 1999/2000's motifs are:
  • Building (temporary spaces; a new Library)
  • Transition
... from the Once & Future Library, to our temporary homes, to the Once & Future Library
... from print to electronic information
... from an old president to a new president
... from the classroom to the ether
  • Technology (for teaching; for students; for information delivery)
  • Planning (for the Library, the College, and the University)
  • Those of our many activities that do not cluster with the six principal themes are organized according to the section of "The Year 2000 and Beyond: Shaping the Future" which they support.
