Section II:
Music Library

"Indeed, I began to think about the move back to the new building even as I was unpacking in the temporary location. One of my highest priorities has been to prepare as much material (music scores and periodicals) as possible for commercial binding so that it is shelf-ready for the new building." Honora Raphael, Music Librarian

· The Plague of Elevators Spreads to Gershwin Hall
Like the Field Library elevator, the Gershwin Hall elevator has proven extremely problematic, breaking repeatedly and remaining out of service for weeks at a time. When the Gershwin elevator is unavailable, it is a daily ordeal for Music Library staff to lug heavy bags, shopping carts, and boxes of books to and from the Field Library and Roosevelt Hall.

· Listening Equipment
Spiffing up the Music Library's audio equipment in anticipation of the move to temporary quarters in Gershwin Hall was a priority in August 1999. Three new compact disk players replaced older models. AV head Harold Wilson and CA Federico Demmer set up the listening carrels in Gershwin. Mr. Demmer is a Fulbright Scholar from Colombia studying in the Music Department.
