ˇ Transfer Evaluation DayAIT worked closely with the registrar to ensure successful Transfer Evaluation Days on June 6, 2000, and January 23, 2001. We closed the Library Café on those dates and lent our space for this special occasion. Our staff provided continuous technical support to the faculty counselors
ˇ Faculty DayChief Librarian Barbra Higginbotham participated on a panel, "Where Do We Go From Here? Brooklyn College in the New Millennium."
ˇ The Gura GroupBarbra Higginbotham served as a member of what is informally called the Gura Group, a committee of five faculty chaired by Professor Tim Gura (Speech) whose remit was to develop guidelines for tenure and promotion candidates who present nontraditional evidence of scholarship (that is, something other than publications in refereed journals). This group will report in the spring 2001.
ˇ Faculty Council's Committee on the Library
"The new Library will be housed in a building with 50% more surface space than the old one. A larger staff will be needed both for the traditional services as well as for the new technology services. In particular, expert staff will be needed for the management of the online resources. In addition, the Library aims at extending its current hours of operation. ... In addition, funds will be needed to maintain the current collections and to improve on the quality and quantity of holdings." Fabio Girelli-Carasi (Modern Languages and Literatures), Chair of Faculty Council's Committee on the Library
Members of the 1999/2000 committee included David Corey (SAS), Fabio Girelli-Carasi (Modern Languages and Literatures) (Chair), Margaret King (History), and Charles Schnabolk (CIS). This year's recommendations included:
The library should maintain and expand its role as a collector and administrator of educational materials that include electronic formats.
The entire library staff and the Chief Librarian in particular are to be commended for doing a superb job under the most difficult and stressful circumstances. Once the library is finally moved back to its original location, it will become imperative to support the new services with adequate increases in personnel and operation budget. Fund-raising efforts should also be initiated with the goal of endowing the library with a trust fund for future expansions and new programs.
ˇ The Library Representatives & the Technology RepresentativesEach fall, the Library asks every academic department to choose both a Library Rep and a Technology Rep as its liaisons to the Library and Academic Information Technology programs. Library Reps work with their departments' bibliographers to shape collections and services, while Tech Reps serve as their departments' interface with Academic Information Technologies. Annually, the Library and AIT invite both groups of Reps for the "state of the union" lunch, our opportunity to share with them new developments and to listen to their ideas and concerns.

ˇ Grant Writing Resourceshttp://academic.brooklyn.cuny.edu/library/cramer/top2.htm
Government Publications and Microforms Librarian Jane Cramer created a special Web page of statistical resources to assist those writing institutional grants.
ˇ Brooklyn College's New Faculty MembersThe Library and AIT staff invited the new faculty for lunch and an introduction to Library/AIT services on October 20, 1999, and November 15, 2000.
ˇ Information Technology and Services
Alex Rudshteyn and David Best (ITS) have formed an effective team. Nicholas Irons and his staff very much miss ITS staffer Patek Kent-Abbott who left the College more than a year ago. Since her departure, AIT has not enjoyed the same level of personal contact and collaboration with their ITS colleagues, which works to the College's collective disadvantage."I really appreciate all the help and assistance provided from the ITS department, especially from David Best." Alex Rudshteyn, Assistant Director for Library Systems
"Special mention should be made of ITS's cooperation in helping AIT with the CUNY sponsored Faculty distance learning events." Howard Spivak, Director for Library Systems and Academic Information Technologies
In 1999/2000 Nicholas Irons and Suzie Samuel formed a campus-wide computer lab managers group. The group is designed as a roundtable for all managers of student labs on campus to discuss common problems and recommend solutions and uniform policies. The number of labs on campus has grown, and it seems that managers could benefit from meetings for the purpose of exchanging ideas, shaping policies, and solving problems.
