SECTION VI: STAFFING, 1999/00
Recruiting, 1999/2000

In the spring 1999 the Provost issued an invitation to propose new positions for the 1999-
2000 academic year. The Library/AIT received approval to recruit for a substitute
assistant professor (the line vacated by Renee Feinberg's retirement), a Web Developer
(to replace Gil Midonnet, who in February 2000 took a job with an Internet start-up
company), and a Multimedia Designer (Higher Education Assistant; a new line).
Library Faculty
Assistant Professor James Castiglione was recruited for the Information Services
substitute slot. He began in September 2000, coming to us from the Graduate School of
Library and Information Science at Pratt Institute. In conjunction with Professor Irwin
Weintraub
he collects and provides other specialized services for Computer & Information
Science and Mathematics.
Professional Staff
On the AIT front, following a highly competitive spring search, Dr. Sylvie Richards joined
our staff as Multimedia Specialist (Higher Education Assistant). She came to us from
Columbia University, via a distinguished career on the faculty of several universities.
Among Dr. Richards' strengths is her ability to communicate effectively with other faculty.
She is also an expert in the Blackboard system, the platform which serves as the
springboard for our teaching-with-technology efforts.

On the same date and following an equally aggressive search Jim Cai (Assistant to Higher
Education Officer) began as AIT's Web Developer. Mr. Cai comes to us from Lehigh
University in Pennsylvania. He is a gifted programmer who is already making a important
contribution by redesigning AIT's website and conducting advanced training for WebCourse
participants.
