SECTION VI: STAFFING, 1999/00
Recruiting: The Future

In the spring 2000, we proposed several new positions to the provost. As a result, in the
2000/01 academic year we will recruit for:
A Physical Sciences Specialist (Chemistry, Physics, Math, CIS) (assistant or
associate professor, with an appointment effective September 2001).

A Technical Support Aide (Higher Education Assistant) to assist Alex Rudshteyn
with the maintenance of the Library/AIT/Library Café network and equipment.

A part-time Distance Education/Instructional Design Specialist to assist with
distance learning programs. (The incumbent Lori Scarlatos, on a shared line with
CIS, received an NSF research grant that requires 1/3 released time, effective fall
2000. She is taking that release from her Library duties, in order to continue her
existing teaching load in CIS.)
Recruitment has been completed for the shared line with History. Philip Napoli, presently
the Curator of the Lehman Suite in the Columbia University Libraries, will begin in the fall
2001. Professor Napoli has worked as an adjunct in the History Department for several
years; his teaching is widely acclaimed. In the spring semester 2001, he will supervise the
interns in the minor in Archival Studies and Community Documentation.
