ON BROOKLYN’S GREEN FIELDS:
Doing Business Via E-Mail

Staff added a number of new services designed to ease the strains created by the paging operation and the Library's new far-flung (and multiple) locations:
· E-Mail and Fax Paging Requests

In February 2000 Access Services staff introduced what proved to be a wildly popular new service: faculty were given the option of faxing or e-mailing their paging requests in advance of an actual visit, so that their materials would be ready and waiting for them when they arrived. (We have been asked many times whether this service will continue to be available in the new Library.)

· E-Mail Book Renewals

All readers are now able to e-mail requests to renew their books, saving them the trip to the Field Library. While many faculty and students continue to renew books in person (often people come to the Library for multiple purposes), this year we received an average of 95 e-mail renewal requests each month.

· E-Mail Book Availability & Overdue Notices

During the 1999/2000 academic year the Library began e-mailing both book availability ("The book on which you placed a hold or recall is now available") and overdue notices to faculty. In September 2000 this service became available to all readers.
