Theme V: Incorporating Technology With Teaching
Task Forces, Local & University-Wide, Address Distance Learning

The Distance Learning Task Force (Brooklyn College)
The Task Force on Distance Learning, chaired by Lilia Melani, was appointed in the spring 2000 semester, the successor to the Virtual Core Task Force. On May 12 the Task Force (of which Chief Librarian Barbra Higginbotham is a member) met with President Kimmich to get his ideas about distance learning at Brooklyn College. The Task Force will submit its report in the spring 2001.

The Task Force on Educational Technology (CUNY)
Professor George Otte (Baruch), a 2000/2001 faculty fellow in Vice-Chancellor’s Louise Mirrer’s office, chairs the University’s Task Force on Educational Technology (TFET). Barbra Higginbotham is the College’s representative and Howard Spivak is the alternate. Both reps and alternates from each CUNY campus are actively involved in the Task Force’s work. Dr. Higginbotham serves on the subcommittees on Policy and Faculty Development; Dr. Spivak is a member of the Faculty Development and the Resources subcommittees.

Professor Otte visited our campus twice in the fall 2000 and has been enthusiastic about Brooklyn’s faculty training and development efforts. The Task Force will report to Vice-Chancellor Mirrer in the spring 2001.
