Theme VI:
THE MORTON & ANGELA TOPFER LIBRARY CAFÉ

While a spring 1999 "Student Technology Survey" conducted by Brooklyn College's Office of Institutional Research suggests that 66% of our students have Internet access from home, there continues to be serious competition for seats in the Library Café. With the Library's move to temporary quarters on the western edge of campus, the Café is the largest student computing facility east of Bedford Avenue.

On a typical day when the semester is in full swing, some 700 students sign up for computer use, and there is a waiting line. Another 350 students use the group study rooms, the conversation pit (with laptop access), and the Café area. Café manager Suzie Samuel and her staff are especially proud of the facility's performance during finals week, when they provide 24 hours of staffed service.
