Theme VI:
THE MORTON & ANGELA TOPFER LIBRARY CAFÉ

During the 1999/2000 academic year Library Systems staff installed additional Ethernet hubs in the Library Café, allowing laptops to connect to the network. A "LoJack"-like software product that deters laptop theft and tracks machines that go missing was piloted, but rejected in favor of securing the equipment to small, portable tables. In mid-October 2000 Café staff first deployed laptops for student use. Four machines are presently in active use, and staff also register students' personal laptops and configure them to work with the facility's network services.
