Theme VI:
THE MORTON & ANGELA TOPFER LIBRARY CAFÉ

"The Café is an important element in the creation of a new atmosphere at
Brooklyn College. Students have support even when their instructors are
not on campus. Also, faculty do not need to spend valuable class time training
students in technology basics, and what is more, they need not worry that
some students will not have access to a PC--the Café is open 24/7." Howard
Spivak, Director for Library Systems & Academic Computing
The Library Café staff provide:
One-to-One Instruction in:
Accessing and navigating threaded discussions
Accessing and navigating instructors' course sites
Using e-mail
Locating and downloading a variety of file formats from links embedded in their
instructors' course sites
Applying Web/Internet techniques (electronic Library resources, searching, etc.)
Custom Small Group Tutorials:
Faculty may reserve one of the group study rooms for instruction for their students.
Weekend Workshop Series:
Café staff present a Weekend Workshop series in which students receive training and
documentation for basic computing skills (Microsoft Office, Corel WordPerfect, Microsoft
Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator).
Documentation Distribution:
Faculty may leave documentation for their students in the Café, and staff will distribute
these materials to their students.
