In 2001/2002 the Library spent $972,964 on materials. If one subtracts the cost of binding, the figure is $954,964. The electronic services budget was highly subsidized by grant programs--$17,800 from the State Coordinated Collection Development Grant and $72,000 through matching funds provided by the State, the Brooklyn College Foundation, and Library gift funds.

The substantial increase in spending for Electronic Services and similar decrease in the category Periodicals and Serials represents not so much a change in spending patterns as a change in format. Our faculty and students prefer electronic to print, and unfortunately there is often a premium to be paid for the former.
