The old CUNY+ catalog (NOTIS-based) closed on September 20, 2002. Only the Circulation function remained, until the new CUNY+ (AKA Aleph) came up on December 16. The problems associated with the considerable gap between NOTIS and the Aleph implementation were many: no new titles could be added to the catalog (or deleted, or changed) and current journal issues could not be checked-in. Student aides madly photocopied title pages, so that holdings could be added post-Aleph, accumulating a huge volume of deferred work.
For months, staff throughout the Library participated in training session upon training session for this windows-based system that is completely different from NOTIS. The adjustment period continues .... System-wide Aleph outages and indexing problems add to the challenges Aleph presents both staff and readers.
