Section IV:
New Faculty & Professional Staff

In April 2002, following a long and intensive search, James Liu (Higher Education Assistant) joined the AIT staff as our network specialist, reporting to Associate Director Alex Rudshteyn. Because in the new building Alex is located on a separate floor from his staff, James has assumed important new responsibilities for the moment to moment supervision of a large part-time staff. From Alex Rudshteyn's report:

"I have to say a few good words about my assistant James Liu. I'm very pleased with the choice the search committee made by selecting James. He has been a key player during our move to the new building and in setting up all the equipment in the new Library. I can proudly say that I have an assistant I can rely on." Alex Rudshteyn, Associate Director for Library Systems

In February 2002 Lawrence Albrecht (Information Systems Aide) was appointed Evening and Weekend Manager of the Library Café. Larry has taken responsibility for a very successful student workshop series, produced some first-rate documentation, and recently contributed to the production of a teaching CD for Professor David Bloomfield.

In November 2002 Nicholas Johnson (Higher Education Assistant) joined the AIT staff as the Manager of the New Media Center, a unit new to the Once and Future Library. Nick (or Nick J or simply NJ as we call him, to distinguish him from Nicholas Irons) came to us from the University of Washington where he served as Senior Computing Specialist.

Harold Wilson received a permanent appointment as a College Laboratory Technician (CLT) with the title New Media Center Evening and Weekend Manager. AIT Director Howard Spivak makes special note of Harold's contributions, which include:
  • Developing a plan to terminate AV services and redistribute the unit's equipment to the academic departments
  • Receiving and distributing new and reassigned equipment to more than 40 academic departments
  • Organizing and packing the AV Center for the move to the new Library
  • Organizing and retraining his group of AV student aides and work-study students to open and staff the New Media Center
  • Supplying complete managerial oversight for the New Media Center until the day manager came on board
  • Continuing to provide basic audiovisual services during a semester-long phase-out period
