This organization was chartered approximately two years ago with the idea that it would coordinate the cooperative purchase of Library resources (with emphasis on e-resources) for academic libraries across NY State, with an eye to negotiating excellent prices. While NYSHEI seemed to get off to a rousing start, there is little evidence that it has accomplished many of its goals. A number of projects and deals are in the hopper, but the organization's potential has not been fully tested. SUNY and CUNY would be delighted to divest themselves of the responsibility for coordinating the purchase of electronic resources, ceding it to NYSHEI, but thus far this is just a dream. For NYSHEI, the jury is still out and it appears that the trial will be a lengthy one.
