  • Online Giving

"In order to make up for a portion of the shortfall in funding Dr. Barbra Higginbotham and her staff have implemented several revenue generating strategies. These include an on-line giving site for making donations, providing naming opportunities for potential donors, and coordinating fund raising drives. ... This committee encourages the College to ... support Dr. Higginbotham and her staff in making up the shortfall through their fund raising efforts." Faculty Council Committee on the Library, Annual Report 2003-2004

In addition to engaging in a variety of cost-containment activities, the Library has taken steps to manage its own fund-raising. During the spring semester the Library management team and Academic IT staff worked together to design a beautiful giving online site which we will pilot in the fall 2004 with a faculty appeal. We also plan to sell via the Library Web site prints from the Archives, perhaps as a tie-in with the College's 75th anniversary celebration. While this may not generate huge sums of money, it's worth a try.

  • Gifts

  • Rhoda Channing: Librarian Rhoda Channing, class of' ‘63, left the Library $10,000 as part of her estate. Her lovely daughter Laura Baecher elected to name the New Media Center desk in her mother's memory. A plaque acknowledging the gift was placed at the desk and unveiled on May 17 at a reception with Ms. Channing's daughter and other family members present. A reception followed in the Multipurpose Room. We are especially grateful for this gift, which will be used to strengthen conservation efforts in the Library.

  • Jonathan Chanis: Without the strong and constant support of Jonathan Chanis, class of ‘82, the Library would surely be a lesser place. Mr. Chanis' 2004 gift of $10,000 is also earmarked for conservation.

  • Several large naming gifts have been made to the new Library, notably the Topfer, Everett, and Wohl gifts. When the issue of the Library Project's debt to the West Quad Project is resolved, we will have access to these funds.
