Photocopy Services

"The cash/coin-operated photocopiers in the Library are inconvenient for both users, and the Library's desk staff, who often are asked to make change so patrons can use the copiers. Card-operated photocopiers are the norm at almost all academic and public libraries, and there is no reason that Brooklyn College should not also be able to provide this much more efficient system. Members of this committee have suggested that multi-purpose cash cards (like Vend-Card) be provided for students and faculty. These cash cards can be re-filled with money, much like the City's MTA Metrocard system, and the cards could be used at photocopiers, vending machines, and at the campus cafeteria. Introduction of these cash cards would contribute towards creating a student centered campus." Faculty Council's Committee on the Library, Annual Report 2003-2004

The maintenance of the photocopiers in the Library is an on-going problem, one that peaks on weekends when vendor service drops off to nothing. The vendor chosen by the College does not offer cards and provides the most minimal upkeep of the machines. This is compounded by the machines' low paper capacity. Addressing and solving these problems will be the job of the new Weekend Supervisor who begins in the fall 2004.
