CUNY+E-Journals Portal

We now have 18 months of experience with Aleph, the new version of CUNY+ implemented on December 16 2002. The catalog record structure in Aleph is markedly different from that in the old CUNY+, and the conversion from old to new has caused sections of some catalog records to become very confusing for students. Additionally, the conversion process created a fair amount of erroneous data. Cataloger Marguerite Iskenderian has been especially diligent in identifying and correcting these problems. Some of the problems to be corrected include Library of Congress subject headings that were inadvertently converted to juvenile headings and single digit volume numbers (v. 1, for example) which did not transfer into Aleph.

While other CUNY libraries are sending overdue notices via email, this is still not possible at Brooklyn College. This is a great pity as email is considerably cheaper than postage and most student's email addresses are available to us. (An email address in a patron record overrides the student's postal address.)

During this academic year the Library replaced its in-house produce E-Journal Finder with Serials Solutions. We call the new service E-Journal Portal; for more information, see Theme 3: Electronic Information Resources, above.
