REDESIGN OF THE LIBRARY WEB SITE http://library.brooklyn.cuny.edu
The redesign of the Library Web site was a major 2004-2005 project, spearheaded by Alex Rudshteyn and Mariana Regalado. Library Systems staff Slava Gurgov, Mikhail Khaykin, and Alek Karpachev did the programming and design, and their work was excellent.
The new design provides users with easier, faster access to the information they need. Color has been used to draw the eye more quickly to popular areas, and to differentiate items. Larger, more readable text is also helpful, and the site's combination of curves and straight lines adds life and a contemporary dynamic.
Clear and distinct navigation tools mean that there is no guessing about what's what.
We are especially proud that the site is ADA compatible.
To add a bit of fun, embedded in the Library Web site are three "Easter eggs," surprises hidden somewhere on the page. Click on the door of the Library, the dot over the "i" in Library, or the clock, and see what you find! In the fall when the students return, we are planning to have an "Easter egg hunt."

ROOM SCHEDULER http://dewey.brooklyn.cuny.edu/libcal/
This software project was AIT's biggest accomplishment of the past year. Alex Gendler did the bulk of the programming and added some very important security features. Thanks to the elegance of his work, users can even download the room reservations they make to Microsoft Outlook as appointments. ITS has asked us if they may use Room Scheduler to reserve machines in the Atrium lab in the Field Building; we are creating a new module for them.
LIBRARY RESOURCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM The Library Resource Management System (subject database) is a large, ongoing Systems project. Enormous progress has been made this year, and this product is now 95% complete. Mariana Regalado and Gleb Stepanov have been key players. When the LRMS launches, librarians will be able to create subject database Web pages on the fly and easily add or remove resources.
GRAPHIC DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT In 2004-2005 the talent and creativity of Alek Karpachev lent itself to countless projects, many of them promotional materials for Library's cultural events like the Author Party, the spring seminar, and the town meeting. Alek also contributed to the 75th Anniversary exhibit and the redesign of the Library Web page.
