The Library has many "built-in" methods of outcomes assessment. We collect a great deal of comparative data and solicit input through our on-line suggestion box libsuggest@brooklyn.cuny.edu.
We were thrilled when the University's Spring 2004 CUNY Student Experience Survey (SES) showed that Brooklyn College's Library was tops in CUNY in terms of student satisfaction.
This spring the Library's Committee on Instruction piloted a survey instrument to be used with faculty whose students receive Library instruction.
In April 2005 all CUNY libraries administered a reader satisfaction survey; the software used was LibQual+, a product of the Association of Research Libraries. As June comes to a close, we have received our data and look forward to analyzing the results. It will be interesting to compare what we learn with the results of our in-house spring 2004 student survey. Brooklyn and Hunter received the most LibQual+ responses; the Library offered students the chance to participate in a lottery for 20 flash drives, and this inexpensive incentive seems to have paid off.
We value deeply the input received from Faculty Council's Committee on the Library. This year's committee was chaired by Professor Bruce MacIntyre (Music). While praising the Library's staff and services, the committee noted that off-campus access to e-resources should be simplified; the Brooklyn College Foundation should support the Library's fund-raising activities; and, in the event of 05-06 budget reductions, funding for collection development should be held harmless.
Sylvie Richards chaired a subgroup of Brooklyn's TLTR charged with developing an assessment plan for course sites.
As the Professional Activities section shows, Library faculty were central to the College's spring 2005 strategic planning initiative.
