Associate Librarian for Information Services: The search for this position was an excellent example of what a combination of good salary, appropriate rank, no-holds-barred networking, and prominent advertising can achieve. We placed large display ads in two March issues of The Chronicle of Higher Education and in the March issue of American Libraries, as well as in College & Research Libraries News and multiple other publications and listservs read by librarians. Members of the search committee sent hundreds of personal emails to friends and colleagues, asking them to recommend candidates and to post the position to local or regional listservs. Building the pool for this key position became the Library’s top spring priority, with superb results: our six semi-finalists were all excellent, and we are delighted to have hired Michele Falkow of St. John’s University. Michele begins August 22.
- Computational Sciences Specialist: On Tuesday, February 1, Jill Cirasella joined the Library faculty as the Physical/Computational Sciences Specialist. Jill holds an undergraduate degree in computer science from Amherst College (summa cum laude; major in quantum computing with a secondary concentration in dance) and an MSLIS from Simmons College. This spring she completed her thesis for an MS in Logic and Computer Science from the Universiteit van Amsterdam where her work was funded by a Fulbright grant. Jill came to us from Thomson Peterson's in Lawrenceville, NJ, where she worked as a test preparation editor. Before that, she served as a librarian at both the Dance Notation Bureau (NYC) and the Boston Architectural Center.
- Head of Acquisitions: On January 24 Ann Matsuuchi, Librarian & Learning Center Supervisor at Metropolitan College of New York, joined us as Head of Acquisitions. Earlier Ann was with the New York Public Library where she progressed from Information Assistant, to Library Trainee (Jefferson Market Regional Library), to Senior Librarian (58th Street Branch). She holds a BA in Philosophy and Religion from Hunter College and an MSLIS from the Palmer School of Library and Information Science, LIU.
