| Acquisition/Appraisal | The papers were deposited at Brooklyn College at three
different times. According to Correspondence on record, these papers were offered to the college
at the prompting of Dr. A. S. Eisenstadt of the Department of History
at Brooklyn College. The earliest accession, three cartons of materials
consisted both of Bender's records and those of her first husband,
psychiatrist Paul Schilder (1886-1940), was deposited on March 18,
1965. In October 1969, on Bender's retirement from Creedmor State
Hospital, she sent two additional cartons of materials. One more
box was delivered to the library archive on October 9, 1974.
