DJJ's mission is to provide Non-Secure (NSD) and Secure Detention for alleged Juvenile Delinquents (JDs) and Secure Detention for alleged Juvenile Offenders (JOs) whose cases are pending, along with post-adjudicated juveniles awaiting transfer to state facilities. DJJ detains youth in structured and secure settings. While in detention, residents receive an array of services, such as education, health services, recreation, and case management.

We seek to reform New York State's school finance system to ensure adequate resources and the opportunity for a sound basic education for all students in New York City. Our efforts will also help secure the same opportunity for students throughout the state who are not currently receiving a sound basic education.

The Special Child Welfare Advisory Panel was formally approved as part of the settlement of the lawsuit in January 1999. In December 2000,the Panel made a Final Report to the Federal court overseeing the case. Subsequently, New York City requested that the Panel continue to work with ACS for another year, and the Panel has agreed to do so. All of the Panel's reports are available.
