Description:
Brooklyn College Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is an IRS-sponsored program that was established in 1969. VITA is a free tax-preparation program that is offered to low- to moderate-income persons (generally $35,000 and below for individuals, and $75,000 and below for families), persons with disabilities, and elderly members of the community who most need tax assistance and cannot afford the services of a paid preparer.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) seeks to fulfill the needs of the surrounding community. Our mission is threefold:

  • For our clients, we aim to prepare accurate returns with the utmost courtesy and professionalism.
  • For our interns, we aim to:
    • provide leadership, training, and real-world experience; and
    • present the importance of an internship and giving back to the community.
  • For the college, we aim to present Brooklyn College as a landmark for academic excellence and service to the community.

Disclaimer: The Brooklyn College VITA program is a community service program run by student volunteers who undergo vigorous training and testing prior to certification by the IRS. Although we endeavor to ensure the accuracy of our services and the information on our website, Brooklyn College VITA and affiliated persons give no warranty, expressed or implied, to the accuracy, reliability, relevance, or completeness of information or service provided. Brooklyn College VITA encourages the use of professional services by certified public accountants or paid tax preparers whenever possible.
