SPSS Part 1- Introduction- Setting up, running and interpreting an analysis

SPSS is a statistical analysis software package that is used commonly by professionals and academics alike.

To get SPSS on your own computer use one of these two methods:

Cloud-based version of the software made available to all members of the CUNY community. The software will run on a virtual desktop (a complete virtual computer running inside a window).

To use this:

  1. Make sure you have a functioning CUNYFirst username and password by visiting https://home.cunyfirst.cuny.edu.
  2. Visit https://www.cuny.edu/about/administration/offices/cis/virtual-desktop/ to download and install VMWARE, the virtual desktop. There are complete instructions on the page.
  3. When ready to launch the software (in the virtual desktop), return to https://www.cuny.edu/about/administration/offices/cis/virtual-desktop/ and click on the SPSS icon. The desktop will ask for your CUNYFirst credentials (be sure to append @login.cuny.edu to your user name).
  4. IBM SPSS can be launched from the START menu of the virtual desktop.
  5. Practice files can be launched by dragging them from your actual desktop into the virtual desktop and then directly into the SPSS virtual environment.
