Description: | Sometimes a person feels pulled in competing directions. For example, you might feel that your emotions are drawing in one direction, but your reasoning is drawing you in the exact opposite direction. In such cases, people sometimes feel that one side of the conflict represents the person’s true self – who the person really is deep down inside. But which part of the mind is seen as the person’s true self? Is it the person’s emotions? Or their reasoning? Or some other part of the mind? I will be discussing results from a series of studies designed to address this question. |
