"Despite the fact that being a mentor to students requires dedication and a great amount of time which I have to carve out of my other duties, I still think that the service to us and the experience received by the student is invaluable and worthy of all my attention and efforts. By participating in the internship program students are gaining a valuable experience which can be useful after they graduate and become professionals. All this contributes to a growing popularity for our internship program among students. Some even try to reserve a place for an internship a semester or two in advance." Alex Rudshteyn, Assistant Director for Library Systems
Another way in which the Library contributes to learning is by providing internships that allow students to acquire real-life skills and to experience the workplace firsthand. In the past year, interns completed these projects:

In the early part of the fall 2000 semester, Nadine Köngeter, a student from the Hochschule für Bibliotheks-und Informationswesen in Stuttgart, Germany, completed a six-week internship in the Library and Academic Information Technologies. In addition to providing reference assistance, Ms. Köngeter worked on the Library website, reorganizing and annotating portions of the electronic ready reference pages and developing informational pages for the extensive list of subscription resources available from the Library. Her major project for Academic Information Technologies involved writing an online survey to determine faculty use of the Internet for teaching.
