The Library is a large and complex organization with multiple initiatives. Because of this, our own themes are interwoven with those chosen by the College:
... from our several temporary homes, back to the Once & Future Library
... from print to electronic information formats
... from the traditional classroom to the World Wide Web
It would be impossible to complete this document without mention of the events of September 11, 2001. However, since New Yorkers are a resilient group (in what other city do citizens sport tee shirts proclaiming, "My city can kick your city's butt"?), it seems unnecessary to belabor the topic. Suffice it to say that the Library lost no one in the attacks on the World Trade Center. It is a source of considerable pride that, while the College announced a very generous leave policy for those who felt unable to come to campus, not one member of the Library staff missed a single day. This is a real tribute to the strong service-orientation of the staff, who felt that students needed them and their services (perhaps more than ever), and who really delivered, under very adverse circumstances.
