It is essential that our collecting budget remain stable: the way in which
electronic journal subscriptions are sold means that we can no longer make
cancellations title by title. Instead, we would be forced to cancel package by
package: not one journal at a time, but dozens of journals at a throw. The
flexibility we once had is gone forever.
The price we pay for electronic information has continued to grow. The
following table represents 2000-2001 costs. In some cases, we have purchased
access in terms of a given number of simultaneous users.
