Theme II:
ASSURING A STUDENT ORIENTED CAMPUS:
Student Outreach: The Information Power Task Force

  • Student Outreach: The Information Power Task Force
  • In keeping with the College's strategic plan which stresses a student-centered campus, a new alliance has been struck among members of the Information Services professional staff and the Office of Student Affairs, with Barbara Scheele and Melanie Bush acting as co-conveners. Student members, who receive transcript credit for campus service, offer suggestions for service. One idea, that for ER or "Emergency Research" service in the Library Café, has been implemented. At Student Affairs' request, the Library also provided a table with refreshments and library literature at the Student Life Expo in May 2001.

Plans for the ongoing work of the Information Power Task Force in the coming year include repeating the ER service and adding a series of seminars on trends in medical research. This idea was suggested by a student in Health and Nutrition Sciences. We look forward to continuing to deepen our involvement with student clubs by targeting the campus branch of the National Medical Student Association and other academic organizations for Library and research-oriented activities.
