Section III: The City University of New York
http://www.cuny.edu
Not only does Brooklyn College serve the students and faculty of other CUNY campuses, but we also receive assistance from the University. In some cases (document delivery services; support for electronic information resources; computer equipment; the Inventory Project; the New Visions Grant) it is relatively easy to fix a value for what the University provides. In others (a new integrated library system) attaching a specific cost is more difficult. It is safe to say that, absent the direct assistance the Office of Library Services provides to us, the Brooklyn College Library would certainly be a lesser place: our students and faculty benefit greatly from these centrally-supplied resources.
In 2000 services received from CUNY central were valued as follows:
Electronic Resources |
$ 71,767 |
Document Delivery |
$ 31,389 |
Cataloging/Processing |
$ 15,000 |
GPO Tape Loading |
$ 1,500 |
|
$119,656 |
The CUNY Honors College
Dr. Sylvie Richards provided training in Blackboard for both CUNY Honors College faculty (May 16, 2001) and students. She also provides on-going Blackboard support for this clientele.
CUNY Faculty & Students
Students from Baruch, City, and Hunter Colleges are some of our heaviest Library users.
The Baruch/Brooklyn College Libraries Faculty Development Project
The Brooklyn and Baruch College Libraries have joined together to pilot a joint staff develop program for the coming academic year. The two chief librarians have provided funds to a committee of six librarians charged with designing and implementing the program. This project (to commence in the spring 2002) is an outgrowth of the January 17-19 2001 workshop presented by University of Hawaii information literacy specialist Randy Burke Hensley
